internet connectivity via cable modem again

Dear Folks,
Grr...
I actually had it working once, but now cannot. It says internet connection is there, but no websites available.
It says no network available when I right click on the systray icon and choose connect, but the icon shows I am connected!
Generic hardware, and I know it works 'cause I got it to work once!
Did this by manually reconfiguring the router, but now this does not work!
Grrr....
Any suggestions appreciated.....
